To mark the 175th anniversary of the railroad in Switzerland, ROCO is presenting a special edition of the Re 10/10 pair in its anniversary livery. The locomotives, painted in the green SBB livery, were adorned with decorative stripes and emblems.
The double-unit consisting of a Re 4/4 and a Re 6/6 is referred to as the Re 10/10 for simplicity’s sake. This name derives from the ten powered axles that the double-unit possesses and, accordingly, does not refer to a specific locomotive type.
The SBB uses the Re 10/10 almost exclusively to haul heavy freight trains on the Gotthard Line. This powerful double-unit combination can handle the prescribed maximum load of 1,400 metric tons at the drawbar at 80 kilometers per hour on a 26 per mille gradient.
