The Pola success story inevitably begins with the founder Horst Pollack, who came from Wuppertal. After working for the renowned model train manufacturer Fleischmann for several years, Pollack soon decided to go into business for himself. In 1957, he ventured into self-employment under the name Pola, and in 1963, the company finally settled in Rothhausen. An empty shoe factory in Rothhausen served as a production facility for the manufacture of outdoor model railroad accessories.
Pola focused particularly on the production of model houses, whose attention to detail still bears Pola's unmistakable signature today. The following years were marked by growing success, and the company also achieved worldwide fame. This success necessitated the expansion of the production facility, employing about 100 people in the company in the 1970s and 1980s. On 16.4.1985 a tragic turn of events occurred: The founder Horst Pollack was killed in an airplane crash near Haßfurt and the future of the Pola company was increasingly shaken in the following years. In 1997, the company finally went out of business and the rights to the Pola models were taken over by the model manufacturer Faller. Despite the changeable company history, the fascination for the Pola models is unbroken worldwide, especially the Pola model kits of the 70s are still very popular among G-Bahn enthusiasts.
