Damit für die Relation Amsterdam–Breda ausreichend Loks zur Verfügung stehen und dieser Verkehr ausgebaut werden konnte, bestellten die Niederländischen Staatsbahnen 2014 insgesamt 19 weitere TRAXX F160 MS mit dem Länderpaket DE/AT/BE/NL und einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 160 km/h.

Die 186 001–019 wurden zwischen 2014 und Anfang 2015 in gelb/blauer Farbgebung ausgeliefert. Seit dem 1. Juni 2018 befinden sich die niederländischen Lokomotiven 186 001–045 im Rahmen eines Sale/Lease Back-Verfahrens im Besitz von Akiem.
