The G 1000 BB can be used for heavy shunting and light road service. It is approved in Germany, Italy, Luxembourg (CFL series 1100) and France. At SBB Cargo they have the series designation Am 842. Some locomotives were rented in 2006 from what was then Railion Deutschland (now DB Cargo Germany) to test their suitability as a possible successor to the 290/294 series. They were given the series number 261 for this purpose, but these bookkeeping numbers were not written on the vehicles.
