Die 40. Staffel mit ihren P-47 Thunderbolt-Jägern war Teil der massiven Allierten Aufgebots zur Befreiung Europas von der Nazi-Herrschaft. Die Einheit wurde 1946 als 190. Jagdstaffel auf der Gowen Field Luftbasis im US-Bundesstaat Idaho neu aufgestellt und konnte somit 2021 sein 7. Jubiläum begehen. Die Einheit feierte das Ereignis mit einer historischen Lackierung, die eine P-47 der Einheit 75 Jahre zuvor trug.
