The German Panther was one of the best tanks of the Second World War, offering an ideal balance between firepower, mobility and protection.
Two companies - Daimler-Benz and MAN - submitted design proposals for the new type of tank, with MAN´s platform eventually selected.
Two final prototypes were delivered in November 1942 (V1 and V2), and serial production of the sleek Panther tank began soon after.
These featured a number of differences from the first production variant of the Panther Ausf.D, including a 650hp engine, 60mm sight blocks and a spherical muzzle brake.
Dragon is proud to release its first 1/35th scale kit of the prototype Panther V2 developed by MAN in the autumn of 1942. The kit is logically based on Dragon´s existing Panther family kits, but includes many new parts that reflect the features of this early prototype.
These differences include the turret (with curved sides), the upper hull, the engine deck and the wheels (with 18 rim studs instead of the later 16). Another example of the differences is the lack of interlocking armour plates on the hull.
This tank of the experimental series FgSt.Nr.2. was elaborately reproduced in 1/35 scale, using Dragon´s technical and technological know-how.
This Panther V2 kit is thus a welcome addition to the Panther family.
