Zum Sommerfahrplan 1987 wurden für die grenzüberschreitenden InterCity-Züge neue Qualitätsstandards bezüglich Wagenmaterial, Geschwindigkeit und Service festgelegt. Züge, die diese Kriterien erfüllten, erhielten die Bezeichnung EuroCity.

Der EC 24 Erasmus verband die Tiroler Landeshauptstadt Innsbruck über München und Frankfurt am Main, dann den Rhein entlang über Emmerich mit der niederländischen Hauptstadt Amsterdam.

Die Wagen dieses Sets gehören zum Stammteil des Zuges und wurden auf dem kompletten Laufweg eingesetzt.
