H0 sound steam locomotive E 991 of the DSB
The most beautiful steam locomotive of the Danish State Railways (DSB) was the class (Litra) E. Its origin lies with eleven Pacific express locomotives of the Swedish State Railways (SJ) class F, which retired from service there due to increasing electrification in 1937.
DSB was able to take over these locomotives with their high tractive effort and then added them to its fleet as E 964-974. From 1940, DSB urgently needed more powerful steam locomotives and so they now had 25 locomotives of the E series rebuilt at Frichs in Aarhus as E 975-999 with minor improvements. Until the 1960s, the Pacifics stood their ground in front of passenger and freight trains, but then one after the other had to be put on the siding.
However, several locomotives were preserved, including the E 991 as the official museum locomotive of DSB. It was in service almost continuously for special services until 2010, and on November 14, 2000, it had the great honor of leading the special train carrying the coffin of the late Queen Ingrid from Copenhagen to Roskilde for burial.
Prototype:
Danish State Railways (DSB) E 991 steam locomotive with a tender. Version in operating condition circa 2007.
